Loops in MPLS

n

Loops in a MPLS network are usually found when the netowrk is setting up Label Switched Paths (LSPs). Loops that are created in a MPLS network will cause transmission errors and make the data transfer process inefficient. There are two common impacts on MPLS networks when the loops are created.

The first impact is called Control packet looping. Packets. Packets that are used to form LSP will continue to transmit along the loop until the loop breaks.

The second impact is called Data packet looping. In this situation packets will be inserted into the loop and continue to transmit until the loop breaks.
